Imbolc Ritual
/Imbolc is ruled by the goddess Brigid and represents the first seeds of spring.
We’re half point from the winter solstice, the sun's rebirth, towards the spring equinox. This marks a time when we start sensing that spring is coming, our seeds for the year are planted and some sunlight is showing the way forward. Where I live, Imbolc is typically embedded in ice cold winds and no snow.
Even though the cold and darkness is still around, and this could be a mentally challenging time as our bodies are put under the pressure of dark and cold, we are celebrating that spring is coming!
We no longer cling to winter, Yule, and what was but look towards the next chapters and new beginnings.
Imbolc is our Initiation. Goddess Brigid leads the way.
An emergence of the new, what we’re about to birth. The energy of this sabbath is very much a midwifery one; holding the seeds in the dark just at their breaking point to merge from their shell.
With goddess Brigid guiding us, we welcome the new beginning. She supports our dreams and visions in the dark void as they’re about to safely get born later in the spring.
Brigid is also a symbol of transformation. That kind of transformation is more than change; that turns one thing into another, a new stronger version. Just like iron is converted into something stronger as it travels through the fire.

Create an Imbolc Altar
One of my favorite thing to do for the sabbaths of the seasonal wheel is to create an altar specifically for that transition point. Doing so allows me to really get in tune with the energies of the holiday, Mother Earth and the current energies for that year.
Use symbols associated with Imbolc such as än image of Brigid, sacred objects in white and yellow, seeds, fire and shells.
This is also a good time to revisit the prayers of intentuons from winter solstice and let them burn in the Imbolc fire or read them aloud once more.
Light an Imbolc Fire Outdoors
This is a strong symbol to awaken the earth as well as the fire within.
I love doing a fire outdoors for the fire sabbaths because it’s so simple, easy to do with all ages and profoundly connective with all of the elements.
Try fighting the cold and the dark with a sacred bonfire!
Write Poetry
Brigid is also associated with the written word and poetic language beyond the mind. Try invoking her gifts and guidance by tuning into your sacred creativity.
Can you create from a depicting and emotional place? Letting words be the prayer and the lines in between be the wayshower…
Imbolc Sabbath
Little seeds are now ready to search for the light.
Little seeds of your becoming, of your previous intentions.
Be brave and work with your seeds.
Don’t get seduced by glimmering opportunities that may arise on your path.
Attending your seeds is
Intention in action.
In Love,
